I have to say, this was the easiest phone purchase I have ever experienced. I bought the original iPhone when it came out about 4 days after it released. I had to port my current number and activate the phone. It took about 36 hours plus about 4 hours on the phone with tech support. I had activation issues as well as port issues.
Move on to the iPhone 3G. I bought this well after it had been released. I had zero troubles with activation on this one, however my AT&T account was another story. I was not eligible for an upgrade and I could not extend my account 2 years to get the $199 phone pricing. I eventually solved this.
iPhone 3GS – I currently have an iPhone 3G and was on a family plan to keep an old phone number of mine. Corinne was with Verizon and wanted to keep her phone number. Once again, I was not eligible for the upgrade pricing of $199. They wanted $399 from me. So, I worked around the problem by getting a new line for Corinne, porting her number to the iPhone 3GS. The was only $10 a month more for an additional line on my plan. She was eligible for the upgrade pricing. I pre-ordered the 3GS on the day it was announced and went to the store to pick it up today.
Now, I figured since Corinne was not with me, they would not port her number. About 15 minutes later, I was out the door with the iPhone 3GS activated with her number already ported!!! I went home, switched the sim chips and now I have the 3GS and Corinne has my old 3G. She is upgrading from a Blackberry pearl (which I hate).
And by the way, the 3GS is SOOOO much faster for loading apps.
